CALDWELL, N.J. - The Caldwell College men's basketball team suffered a lopsided defeat at the hands of Felician College, 78-53 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game Thursday evening in the George R. Newman Center. With the loss, the Cougars fall to 7-11 overall and 4-6 in the conference. The Golden Falcons, who are the defending CACC champions, improve to 9-11, 5-7 CACC.
Caldwell never found its offensive rhythm, falling behind early, 20-9 in the game's first eight minutes. A basket by sophomore forward Arthur Morrison (Phillipsburg, NJ/APEX) at the seven-minute mark pulled the Cougars to within nine, 26-17. But a pair of three-pointers by Jimmy Schmitt and another from Anthony D. Green sparked a 15-5 spree that put Felician on top, 41-22 at halftime. The Golden Falcons were as hot shooting the ball as the Cougars were cold, making 60.7 percent from the floor compared to 34.6 percent for Caldwell in the first half.
Momentum stayed with Felician into the second half, as the visitors reeled off a 17-1 run at one point to lead 65-30. Caldwell never threatened after that, losing to the Golden Falcons for the second time this year. Devon Young led all players with 18 points, while Kashiff Foster registered 15 points and 10 boards for Felician. Morrison and junior guard Anthony Gill (New Rochelle, NY/New Rochelle) each scored eight points for Caldwell, while senior forward Antonio Brimley (Paterson, NJ/Paterson Eastside) grabbed a team-high eight boards and blocked three shots.
The Cougars travel to play Philadelphia University on Saturday, Feb. 5, beginning at 2:00 p.m. in Philadelphia, Pa.
