RUTHERFORD, N.J. - Trailing by 17 points in the second half, the Caldwell College men's basketball team came within one point before ultimately losing to Felician College, 69-67 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game Thursday evening at Job Gymnasium. With the loss, the Cougars fall to 4-8 overall and 1-3 in league play, while the Golden Falcons improve to 5-7, 1-3 CACC.

After a three-pointer by Mike Edghill gave Felician a 54-37 lead with just under 10 minutes remaining in the game, Caldwell picked away at the lead, eventually recording a 23-9 run to pull to within three, 63-60 with 1:27 on the clock. Junior guard Derrick Ross (Newark, NJ/Newark Westside) led the Cougars with eight points in the run, including a three-pointer. The Golden Falcons still held a five-point lead with 23 seconds left before junior guard Anthony Gill (New Rochelle, NY/New Rochelle) hit a pair of free throws to make the score 68-65 with 16 seconds left. Gill, pictured, then stole the inbounds pass and tipped the ball to sophomore forward Karel Thuwis (Zonhoven, Belgium/Brehm Prep), who converted a lay-up to make it a one-point game, 68-67 with 10 seconds on the clock.

Felician's Devon Young was fouled immediately and went 1-of-2 from the line, giving Caldwell the ball down two points with eight seconds remaining. Following a timeout, Gill dribbled into the lane and put up a shot that was off the mark. Senior forward Antonio Brimley (Paterson, NJ/Paterson Eastside) grabbed the rebound and attempted a put-back, but his shot bounced off the rim as time expired.

The Golden Falcons made 7-of-11 from three-point range in the first half to lead by as many as 15 points. Young had 12 points as Felician took a 38-25 advantage at halftime. Momentum stayed with the hosts early in the second half, and back-to-back three-pointers by Kashif Foster and Edghill gave the Golden Falcons their biggest lead, 54-37.

Caldwell held a 41-34 rebounding advantage and forced 25 Felician turnovers, but the Cougars struggled at the free throw line, making 17-of-30 (56.7 percent) compared to 71.4 percent (20-of-28) for the Golden Falcons. Ten Caldwell players scored at least four points, led by 13 points from sophomore guard Robert McPherson (Bowie, MD/Bullis) and 11 points from sophomore forward Arthur Morrison (Phillipsburg, NJ/APEX). Young finished with 19 points and Foster had 17 for Felician.

The Cougars take on Concordia College on Monday, Jan. 10 in another CACC battle. Game time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. in Bronxville, N.Y.
