CALDWELL SOFTBALL SCORES 33 RUNS AT NYACK

NYACK, N.Y. - The Caldwell College softball team swept a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference doubleheader at Nyack College Thursday afternoon, winning 20-0 and 13-2. The victories extend the Cougars' winning streak to six and give them a 20-8 record overall, including a 10-2 mark in league play. The Warriors fall to 2-23, 0-14 CACC.

The Cougars pounded out 19 hits in Game 1 while scoring 15 runs in the second and third innings combined. Freshmen Dia Cascone (Staten Island, NY/Susan Wagner) and Amy Leal (New Bedford, MA/Bishop Stang), left, hit their first career home runs, while senior Danielle Genovese (Livingston, NJ/Livingston) went deep for the fourth time this season and the 14th time in her career. Freshman Cassandra Cefolo (Florham Park, NJ/Hanover Park) went 2-for-2 with a double, four runs batted in and three runs scored. Sophomore Juliette Wilson (Dallas, OR/West Salem) and junior Annie Forte (Toms River, NJ/Toms River) combined for the shutout, with Wilson striking out four and walking none in four innings of work for the win.

In the second game, Caldwell scored four runs in the first, seven in the third and two more in the fifth to continue the offensive onslaught. Sophomore Rebecca Ashley (Bellingham, MA/Mt. St. Charles Acad.) hit a three-run home run in the third for her first round-tripper of her career. Cefolo hit a two-run double in the third to finish the day with six RBI, while senior Kyrie Timbrook (Los Gatos, CA/Los Gatos) was 2-for-2 with two runs and two RBI. Freshman Sierra Parker (Chino Hills, CA/Chino Hills) was one of many frosh to enjoy success, as Parker had three hits in Game 2. After recording her first career hit in the first game, sophomore Melissa Miller (Waxhaw, NC/Weddington), right, blasted her first home run as a collegian in the fifth. Nyack plated a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth on a single by Anna Bulka.

Freshman Kelly Schymanski (Pottstown, PA/Owen Roberts) pitched all five innings for Caldwell, allowing two  unearned runs on five hits while striking out a career-high seven batters and walking none.

The Cougars will participate in the Georgian Court Tournament this Saturday and Sunday in Lakewood, N.J. On Saturday Caldwell faces N.Y.I.T. at 11:00 a.m. and Queens College at 1:00 p.m. Then on Sunday the Cougars play Dowling College at 11:00 a.m. and Adelphi University at 3:00 p.m.
