Dowling 1, CC 0
AU 2, CC 0
LAKEWOOD, N.J. - The Caldwell College softball team dropped a pair of close games at the Georgian Court Tournament on Sunday, losing to Dowling College 1-0 and to Adelphi University 2-0. The defeats leave the Cougars with a 22-10 record on the season.

Against Dowling (22-9), Caldwell managed just three hits off of Lions pitcher Jessie Stavola, who struck out 12 batters in the complete-game shutout. The lone run of the game came in the bottom of the third inning, when Lisa Compitello hit a triple, then scored on a two-out single by Stephanie Tarango. In the top of the sixth, the Cougars advanced a runner to third base with one out, but Stavola struck out the next two batters to end the threat.

Junior pitcher Brittany Pulido (Ojai, CA/Nordhoff) nearly matched Stavola, allowing one run on seven hits while fanning four and walking one to drop to 11-2 on the season. Senior Kyrie Timbrook (Los Gatos, CA/Los Gatos) and sophomores Kelly Ryan (Woonsocket, RI/Mt. St. Charles Acad.) and Marisa Tamez (Fountain Valley, CA/Fountain Valley) had the hits for Caldwell.

The Cougars ran into another hot pitcher against Adelphi (18-14) in Leighann Bell, who blanked Caldwell on three hits in seven innings. For the Panthers, Katie Brophy singled home a run in the third and Shay Craig hit a solo home run in the sixth. The Cougars received a double and a single from Timbrook (pictured) and a single from Tamez, but did not advance a runner past second base in the game. Freshman Kourtney Wilson (Islip, NY/St. Anthony's) allowed two runs on five hits in a complete-game effort to fall to 8-5. Timbrook's three hits on the day raised her team-leading batting average to .505.

The Cougars play a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference doubleheader at the University of the Sciences on Tuesday, Apr. 13, beginning at 3:00 p.m. in Philadelphia, Pa.
