CC 10, QC 1 (5 inn.)
LAKEWOOD, N.J. - The Caldwell College softball team won a pair of non-conference games against East Region foes NYIT and Queens College at the Georgian Court Tournament Saturday afternoon at the GCU Softball Complex. The Cougars scored six runs in the second inning en route to a 9-1 victory over NYIT (15-15) before hitting five home runs in a 10-1 win over Queens (10-16). The results give Caldwell a 22-8 record on the season.

Against NYIT, sophomore Marisa Tamez (Fountain Valley, CA/Fountain Valley) hit a three-run double to key a six-run second inning. Sophomore Kelly Ryan (Woonsocket, RI/Mt. St. Charles Acad.) had a two-run single, while sophomore Katie Margiotta (Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp) roped a double that scored junior Annie Forte (Toms River, NJ/Toms River North). Margiotta also hit an RBI single and scored on an error in the third for an 8-0 lead. In the fourth, Tamez singled home senior Danielle Genovese (Livingston, NJ/Livingston) to put Caldwell on top 9-0.

Junior pitcher Brittany Pulido (Ojai, CA/Nordhoff) held the Bears without a hit through four innings and was relieved by freshman Kelly Schymanski (Pottstown, PA/Owen Roberts) to start the fifth inning. After Nicole Constantatos led off the fifth with a home run to right, Pulido re-entered and promptly retired the final three batters on a groundout and two strikeouts. For the game, Pulido (right) gave up no hits while walking two and striking out six in five innings to improve to 11-1. Jamie Brooker took the loss for NYIT after allowing six runs, two earned, on four hits and two walks in 1 1/3 innings.

In the day's second game, Genovese hit a two-run home run in the top of the first to give the Cougars an early lead over Queens. Katie Miracco singled for the Knights in the bottom of the first and came around to score on an error to make the score 2-1 Caldwell. In the third, Genovese (left) hit her second home run of the game, another two-run blast, and her sixth of the season for a 4-1 advantage. Not to be outdone, senior Kyrie Timbrook (Los Gatos, CA/Los Gatos) followed with her sixth homer of the year. Tamez then made it three round-trippers in a row with a solo shot to left-centerfield to put the Cougars ahead 6-1. The power display continued in the fourth, when freshman Dia Cascone (Staten Island, NY/Susan Wagner) went deep, plating Ryan in the process for an 8-1 lead. Senior Brittni Frantellizzi (Binghamton, NY/Susquehanna Valley) hit an RBI single in a two-run fifth that made the score 10-1 Caldwell.

Freshman Kourtney Wilson (Islip, NY/St. Anthony's) struck out six while giving up an unearned run on three hits in four innings to improve to 8-4. Sophomore Juliette Wilson (Dallas, OR/West Salem) pitched a scoreless fifth inning. Bryttne Nelson allowed eight runs on eight hits in 3 2/3 innings to absorb the loss for Queens.

Caldwell wraps up play on Sunday, Apr. 11 at the Georgian Court Tournament with games against Dowling College at 11:00 a.m. and Adelphi University at 3:00 p.m.
