After Adelphi took a 1-0 lead with a run-scoring single by Maria Canino, the Cougars tied the score with a run in the bottom of the second. Junior Annie Forte (Toms River, NJ/Toms River North) singled, then sophomore Marisa Tamez (Fountain Valley, CA/Fountain Valley) doubled to put runners at second and third with one out. Sophomore Katie Margiotta (Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.) followed with a single that plated Forte and tied the game 1-1. In the top of the third, sophomore Kelly Ryan (Woonsocket, RI/Mt. St. Charles Acad.) led off with a single and eventually scored on an error for the go-ahead run. Adelphi threatened in the seventh, as Deandra Leo led off with a double. Amanda Dolen then singled to left, but Margiotta gunned down Leo at the plate, with senior catcher Brittni Frantellizzi (Binghamton, NY/Susquehanna Valley) putting the tag on. Freshman pitcher Kourtney Wilson (Islip, NY/St. Anthony's) retired the final two batters to end the game and give Caldwell its second win over the Panthers in the last three days.

Wilson went the distance to earn the victory, allowing six hits and one run while walking three and striking out six. Christine Robinson lasted five innings and took the loss.

Augustana continued its successful start, winning its 12th game of the season behind the pitching of Chelsey Durland. The Cougars managed just one hit, a single by senior Danielle Genovese (Livingston, NJ/Livingston) in the top of the sixth, and an unearned run on two walks and an error in the fourth. The Vikings tallied four runs in the bottom of the fourth, with Kayla Henke hitting a bases-loaded, three-run double. The hit was one of six extra-base hits for Augustana. Sophomore pitcher Juliette Wilson (Dallas, OR/West Salem) started and gave up six runs on seven hits in 3 2/3 innings.

The Cougars play Adelphi and Minnesota State-Moorhead on Wednesday, Mar. 17 at the Osceola County Softball Complex.
