CALDWELL SOFTBALL LOSES TO SHEPHERD, BEATS ADELPHI AT REBEL GAMES

CC 7, UB 4
UMD 4, CC 0
KISSIMMEE, Fla. - For the third straight day, the Caldwell College softball team took one of two games at the Rebel Spring Games on Monday at Oren Brown Field. The Cougars won the first game 7-4 over the University of Bridgeport, then lost to Minnesota-Duluth 4-0 in Game 2. The results give Caldwell a 3-3 record on the season.

Against Bridgeport (0-3), senior Kyrie Timbrook (Los Gatos, CA/Los Gatos) and sophomore Katie Margiotta (Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.) hit run-scoring singles to spark a four-run first inning. After the Purple Knights scored a run in the top of the third, Timbrook crushed a two-run homer to left in the fourth to put Caldwell ahead 6-1. Bridgeport took advantage of two Cougar errors in the top of the sixth, scoring three runs to make the score 6-4. In the bottom of the sixth, freshman Dia Cascone (Staten Island, NY/Susan Wagner) doubled and later scored on an error for a 7-4 Caldwell lead. Junior pitcher Brittany Pulido (Ojai, CA/Nordhoff) shut out Bridgeport in the top of the seventh to wrap up the win.

Pulido started and pitched six innings, allowing a run on six hits while striking out three and walking one for her first victory of the season. Margiotta and junior Annie Forte (Toms River, NJ/Toms River North) each had three hits, while Timbrook drove in three runs. Madison Smith went the distance for Bridgeport and took the loss.

In the second game, Caldwell committed three errors in the bottom of the first inning that led to three runs for UMD. Like the defense, the Cougars' offense struggled, producing only a lead-off single by sophomore Kelly Ryan (Woonsocket, RI/Mt. St. Charles Acad.) and a Timbrook double in the fourth. The Bulldogs added a run in the sixth off a grounder by Tyra Kerr for a 4-0 advantage.

UMD pitcher Kristin Danielson allowed just two hits and a walk while fanning 10 in a complete-game effort. Sophomore Juliette Wilson (Dallas, OR/West Salem) started for Caldwell and gave up four runs, one earned, on four hits in five innings.

Caldwell takes on Adelphi University and Augustana College on Tuesday, Mar. 16, beginning at 1:00 p.m. at the Fortune Road Softball Complex.
