CASAL, CALDWELL BLANK QUEENS IN BASEBALL, 10-0


FLUSHING, N.Y. - Junior right-hander Robert Casal (Howard Beach, NY/St. Francis Prep) pitched a four-hit shutout to lead the Caldwell College baseball team to a 10-0 victory over Queens College in a non-conference game Thursday afternoon at Ray Metski Field. The victory is the Cougars' third in a row and improves their overall record to 9-13 on the season.

Caldwell scored a run in the first, then exploded for seven runs in the top of the fourth before putting two more on the board in the seventh. Junior Adric Saxon (Coral Springs, FL/Broward CC) hit a three-run homer, his third of the year, in the Cougars' big fourth inning in which Caldwell sent 11 batters to the plate. Saxon, left, finished with five runs batted in on a single, a double and a homer. Senior Jorge Torres (Coral Springs, FL/Taravella) and juniors Andrew Robertson (Coral Springs, FL/Taravella) and Doug Hilgenberg (Flemington, NJ/Hunterdon Central) each had two hits, while junior Omar Velazquez (Astoria, NY/Long Island City) scored twice.

Casal, the 2008 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Pitcher of the Year, picked up his first victory of the season after allowing no runs on four hits and two walks while striking out seven batters.

Next up for the Cougars is a non-conference game against Concordia College on Monday, Apr. 13. Game time is set for 3:00 p.m. at Smith Field in Parsippany, N.J.
