box score
PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. - The Caldwell College women's basketball team lost its second game at the Pace University Tournament, falling to the University of New Haven, 73-57 Tuesday afternoon at the Goldstein Fitness Center. The loss is the Cougars' third in a row and drops their overall record to 4-7, while the Chargers improve to 8-3.

Caldwell held a slim lead for most of the first half, thanks to 14 points and five steals from sophomore guard Kirsty Leedham (Ellesmere Port, England/Cheshire Acad.), pictured, and 11 points and eight boards from senior forward Mackenzie Lynch (Wayne, NJ/DePaul Catholic) in the half. After a Leedham three-pointer gave Caldwell a 25-24 advantage with 6:33 left in the first period, the Chargers closed out the half with a 17-8 run for a 41-33 halftime lead. New Haven shot 51.9 percent from the floor in the first half compared to 35.1 percent for the Cougars.

Lynch scored the first basket of the second half to cut the deficit to six, 41-35. But that's as close as the Cougars would get, as the Chargers built their lead to as many as 19 points en route to the non-conference win. Caldwell continued to shoot poorly after halftime, hitting just 8-of-28 (28.6 percent) from the field.

Lynch led all scorers with 22 points to go with 14 rebounds, including eight on the offensive glass. Leedham finished with 17 points and a career-high six steals, while sophomore guard Abena George (Elmont, NY/Elmont Memorial) swiped four steals. New Haven was led by Briiana Rende with 15 points and Alysia Saunders with 13 points and 10 rebounds.

The Cougars return home on Sunday, Jan. 4, to face Dowling College in their final non-conference game of the season. Game time is set for 5:00 p.m. in the George R. Newman Center.
