LYNN TOPS CALDWELL IN WOMEN'S HOOPS, 73-56

BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Caldwell College women's basketball team dropped a non-conference game to Lynn University, 73-56 in the first of two games in Florida Sunday afternoon at the de Hoernie Center. The Cougars fall to 0-3 with the loss, while the Fighting Knights improve to 2-0.

Lynn scored the first 12 points of the game en route to a 24-5 lead at the 11-minute mark of the first half. The lead would expand to as many as 21 points before free throws by freshman guard Kaitlyn Lambert (Cumberland, RI/Cumberland) and sophomore guard Kirsty Leedham (Ellesmere Port, England/Cheshire Acad.) before halftime made the score 37-19 Lynn at the break. Caldwell shot just 23.1 percent from the field in the half compared to 43.2 percent for the Fighting Knights.

Three-pointers by Chelsea Patterson and Jade Williams to start the half helped Lynn build a 43-21 advantage in the first two minutes of the second half. But the Cougars made a push to get back in the game with a 17-6 run over the next five minutes to cut the deficit to 49-38 with 13:11 to play. Senior forwards Mackenzie Lynch (Wayne, NJ/DePaul Catholic) and Janay Perkins (Bronx, NY/Walton) each scored four points in the run, which saw six different players score for Caldwell. Lynn responded with six straight points that sparked a 13-4 spree that made the score 62-42 with 8:40 on the clock. The Cougars pulled to within 14 points twice but the Fighting Knights prevailed to remain unbeaten.

Lynch finished with 16 points and eight rebounds, while Lambert tallied 11 points and a team-high 10 rebounds for her first career double-double. Leedham added 10 points, eight in the second half, as Caldwell made 48.1 percent from the floor after halftime. Patterson led Lynn with 16 points, and Madeleine Doyle grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds to lead the Fighting Knights to a 51-39 advantage on the boards.

The Cougars play another game in the Sunshine State on Tuesday, Nov. 25, when they face Barry University in Miami Shores, Fla. Game time is set for 5:30 p.m.
