CALDWELL, N.J. - Senior guard Jean Georges (Vauxhal, NJ/Spotswood) became the 13th player in Caldwell College men's basketball history to score 1,000 career points as the Cougars beat Felician College, 82-58 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference contest Tuesday evening at the George R. Newman Center. Georges, who finished with a season-high 25 points, reached the milestone on a three-pointer with 6:17 left in the first half. It was his third three of the game. The Cougars are now 5-1 overall and 2-0 in the conference after picking up their fourth straight win. Felician falls to 2-5, 2-2 CACC.
Georges' first three-pointer of the game began Caldwell's 25-7 run in the first 9:16 of the contest, while his history-making three gave the Cougars their largest lead of the half, 38-14. Caldwell eventually took a commanding 46-25 advantage into the break. Felician fought back and twice cut the lead to 13 points, the last time coming at the 4:40 mark after a free throw by Jason Romer. But five points from freshman forward Sam Cricelli (Brighton, England/Culham) and four points each from Georges and junior forward B.J. Suchy (Ronkonkoma, NY/Our Savior) allowed Caldwell to close the game with a 13-2 spree for the final margin of victory.
Georges, who has scored at least 20 points in all six of Caldwell's games this season, now has 1,018 points to rank 13th on the Cougars' all-time scoring list. He also led the Cougars with nine rebounds and two steals while making 3-of-4 from three-point range. Suchy, recently named the CACC Player of the Week, tallied 18 points and six rebounds, while Cricelli and freshman center Wojciech Bocianowski (Warsaw, Poland/Life Center Academy), left, both finished with 11 points and eight boards apiece. Cricelli also had a team-best five assists. For Felician, Sydir Mitchell and Michael Pierrot each scored 12 points in the loss.
The Cougars continue CACC play with a game at Dominican College on Thursday, Dec. 7. Tip-off is set for 8:00 p.m. in Orangeburg, N.Y.
