SUCHY'S BUZZER-BEATER LIFTS COUGARS OVER BLOOMFIELD

GOLDEN, Colo. - The Caldwell College men's basketball team dropped its second game at the Colorado School of Mines Tournament in Golden, Colo., falling to the host Orediggers 59-51 Saturday night at Volk Gym. Senior forward Jean Georges (Vauxhal, NJ/Spotswood) scored 20 points for the second game in a row to lead the Cougars, who are now 1-1 on the season. The Orediggers remain undefeated at 2-0.

The Cougars started slowly, shooting just 25.0 percent (6-of-24) from the field in the first half en route to a 29-19 halftime deficit. The CSM lead would grow to as many as 15 in the second half before Caldwell battled back. Nine straight points, highlighted by four points from sophomore guard Carl Augustin (Stony Point, NY/Dom Bosco Prep) and capped by a basket from freshman forward Sam Cricelli (Brighton, England/Culham), made the score 47-42 in favor of the Orediggers with 5:29 remaining. After the teams exchanged baskets, CSM went on an 8-2 run to take a 57-46 lead with just 27 seconds on the clock. Georges scored a basket and a three-pointer 11 seconds apart, but it was not enough, as Franklin Ryk's free throws ended the scoring.

Georges, who scored 20 points in Caldwell's 66-65 victory over Mesa State in the tournament's first game on Friday, went 12-of-20 from the floor and 5-of-9 from three-point range over the two games. Junior forward B.J. Suchy (Ronkonkoma, NY/Our Savior) notched 12 points, while Augustin finished with a team-high five rebounds for Caldwell. Kyle Pape led the Orediggers with 16 points.

Next up for the Cougars is the home-opener against Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference rival Bloomfield College on Tuesday, Nov. 28. The tip-off is scheduled for 8:00 p.m. following the women's game at the George R. Newman Center.
