NEW CASTLE, Del. - The Caldwell College baseball team lost to N.J.I.T., 14-1 and were eliminated at the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournament Friday morning at Wilson Field. The Cougars, who were defeated by Dominican College on Thursday, fell to 22-20 on the season, while the Highlanders improved to 21-17 and stayed alive in the tournament.
Caldwell starter Mike Kolesar (New City, NY/Clarkstown North), who had given up just one run and seven hits while striking out 24 in 16.0 innings against N.J.I.T. this season, allowed five runs in the first two innings, including first-inning homers by Phil Resciniti and Kwesi Mitchell. The Cougars got one run back in the third on an RBI single by senior Hasani Whitfield (Briarwood, NY/Molloy). But a seven-run fourth inning for N.J.I.T. put the game away and ended Caldwell's attempt to repeat as CACC Tournament champions.
Junior Nick Mauro (Nutley, NJ/Nutley) was named to the all-Tournament team after going 4-for-7 with an RBI in two games.
