Rinick Laces Six Hits Including HR, Baseball Sweeps Pair at Dominican

Gambone, Sangataldo Deliver Solid Starts in Triumphs

POMONA, N.Y. -- Senior SS Christian Rinick (Marlton, N.J.) had four hits, including a home run in the opener and two more in the nightcap as Caldwell University baseball swept a pair of games at Dominican, 14-4 and 6-3, at Clover Stadium on Thursday.

In game one, senior DH Stephen Young Jr. (Middlesex, N.J.) got the Cougars off to a big start with a solo homer in the first. CU added two in the second and three in the third, a two-run single by junior 2B Devon Cass (New City, N.Y.) capping the inning to give the visitors a 6-0 lead.

Then, leading 9-3, the Cougars put it out of reach with a five-run eighth, with Rinick and senior 1B Chris Hopf (Middlesex, N.J.) blasting home runs and freshman RF Izaiah Robinson (Franklin Township, N.J.) driving a two-run single.

Junior RHP Jonathan Gambone (Westville, N.J.) pitched a serviceable five innings, allowing three hits and three runs, and senior RHP John Rigas (Lincoln Park, N.J.) permitted a run over the final three frames for the save.

In game two, junior CF Jimmy Turchi (Bridgewater, N.J.) hit a three-run double, breaking a 3-3 tie in the sixth, and junior RHP Vinny Sangataldo (Medford, N.J.) made it stand up, going the full seven innings, permitting seven hits one earned run and walking none for his second win.

Rinick added two hits and two runs scored in the victory.

Caldwell (7-16 overall, 6-12 CACC) returns to action on Monday, hosting Molloy in a doubleheader at Kiwanis Oval beginning at 1 p.m.
