NEW HAVEN, Conn. — Freshman right fielder Izaiah Robinson (Franklin Twp., N.J.), who hit .500 for the week and drove in the winning run in the bottom of the ninth vs. Holy Family on Sunday, has been named Central Atlantic Athletic Conference (CACC) Rookie of the Week, the league announced today. Junior pitcher Jonathan Gambone (Westville, N.J.) and senior first baseman Chris Hopf (Middlesex, N.J.) earned Weekly Honor Roll for their respective efforts in the Cougars' 4-1 week.
Robinson delivered the walk-off hit, a laser to left center, to cap comeback win as part of a week in which he slashed .500/.578/.625. Robinson stole four bases in four attempts including two in Sunday's win over HFU, in which he also took advantage of bobble by the CF on a single by senior SS Christian Rinick (Marlton, N.J.) to alertly score and eighth-inning run that aided rally… Robinson, who now has stolen 10 bases and been caught just once, raised his batting average from .192 to .310.
Gambone pitched seven innings of two-hit ball, fanning six, allowing one run, leaving with the lead but getting a no-decision in Saturday's first game vs. Holy Family. The Cougars take to the road this week visiting CACC foes Georgian Court for a single game on Tuesday and Dominican for a doubleheader on Thursday before breaking for Easter.
