Box Score CALDWELL, N.J. -- Senior LF Zach Saunders (Adelphi, Md.) launched his second home run of the season and sophomore catcher Christopher Bayo (Miami) had three hits as Caldwell baseball fell to Bridgeport, 9-6, in the opener of their three-game series and CACC opening game on Wednesday at Kiwanis Oval.

UB led, 7-0, after five, before the Cougars (1-8, 0-1 CACC) would rally with two in the sixth on the Saunders blast and four more in the seventh, keyed by three bases-loaded walks by junior 1B Liam James (Roseland, N.J.), junior SS Sean Brown and Saunders. But UB (3-14, 1-0) shut the door in the last two frames for the victory.

Senior righty Trent Williams (Glen Burnie, Md.) struck out three over 4 1/3 innings of relief for the Cougars.

In a scheduling update, the Cougars and Purple Knights will continue the three-game series in Bridgeport, Conn. on Friday with a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. in anticipation of foul weather on Saturday.
