NEW CASTLE, Del.- The Caldwell University women's bowling team went 3-0 in bracket play as the Cougars finished in third place to close out play at the Wildcats D2/D3 Invitational hosted by Wilmington University.
The Cougars entered bracket play as the fifth seed and opened the best of 7 baker bracket against sixth seed Molloy University. Caldwell swept Molloy 4-0, winning 169-136, 193-137, 166-150 and 234-160.
The Cougars advanced to face third seed Wilmington with the Wildcats taking the first three games, 204-159, 226-158 and 178-160. Caldwell roared back with four straight wins, taking the fourth game 235-201. The Cougars the fifth game 175-169 and evened the match in the sixth game 242-199. Caldwell completed their comeback with a 236-159 in the deciding seventh game to win 4-3.
In their final match of the day, Caldwell faced second seed Daemen University. The teams split the first two games with the Cougars taking the opener 189-165 but the Wildcats won game two 202-174. Caldwell took the next three games, 214-188, 184-183 and 169-155 to win 4-1 and capture third place for the tournament.
Junior
Lauren Marks (Parsippany, N.J.) led the team with a 25.30 baker average. Senior
Rhianna Smith (Mount Olive, N.J.) posted a baker average of 19.16, while sophomore
Yoana Hyman-Cruz (Edison, N.J.) finished with an 18.86 baker average.
The Cougars return to action March 18-19 as they compete in the Northeast Roundup hosted by Wilmington in New Castle, Delaware.
