NEW HAVEN, Conn.--Senior forward
Israel Dos Santos Neto (Salvador Bahia, Brazil), who collected 13 goals and added seven assists, was named CACC Men's Soccer Player of the Year today in voting done by the league's coaches.
Graduate forward
Andre Vieira (Union, N.J.), who notched 12 goals and had four assists, and senior midfielder
Murilo DeOliveira (Sao Paulo, Brazil), whose 13 assists paced the Conference, were named to the First and Second team, respectively.
Neto posted two goals each in three Cougars contests and at least one tally in 10 games. He earned one Player of the Week honor and was on the Honor Roll three times. He ranked second in the league in goals and points and totaled 17 goals in his two years as a Cougar.
Vieira scored at least one goal in each of the Cougars' first nine goals, finishing his career with 40 goals to tie the school record. He had game-winners in wins at Bentley and Bloomfield, bringing his career total to six game-winners.
DeOliveira ranks third on the 2023 NCAA Division II assist leader board with those 13 helpers, contributing 15 total points. He notched three against Bloomfield and had two each in three other contests.
The Cougars finished 2023 at 9-6-1, their most wins since 2014, in Head Coach
Evan Marques's second year at the helm.
