Box Score 2 CALDWELL, N.J.- The Caldwell University baseball team split a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference doubleheader against Goldey-Beacom College. The Lightning took the opener 5-1, while the Cougars won the nightcap 14-3 to earn the split.

The Cougars move to 12-21 overall and 7-13 in the CACC, while the Lightning stand at 21-21 and 12-5 in conference play.

In the opener, Caldwell was limited to two hits as freshman
Ryan Opak (Douglaston, N.Y.) accounted for both hits, including a solo homerun in the fourth inning.

The Cougars jumped out to an early lead in the nightcap with four runs in the opening inning. Freshman
Liam Lombardi (Stony Point, N.Y.) led off with a double, while senior
Frank Lehmann (Colonia, N.J.) singled to put runners at the corners. Senior
Kyle Richards (Sayreville, N.J.) singled in Lombardi and stole second to put runners on second and third. Freshman
Santo Anzalone (Middle Village, N.Y.) hit a sacrifice fly to score Lehmann, while sophomore
Noah Putney (Glassboro, N.J.) singled to drive in Richards. Freshman
Liam James (Roseland, N.J.) singled later in the inning to score Putney for a 4-0 lead.

Caldwell added to their lead in the second as junior
Elias Negron (Virginia Beach, Va.) led off with a single and Lehmann singled later in the inning. Anzalone followed with a two-run double for a 6-0 lead.

The Lightning got a run back in the third but Caldwell tacked on a run in their half of the inning. James singled with one out and stole second. Junior
Michael Lazzaro (Toms River, N.J.) singled James home to extend their lead to 7-1.

Goldey-Beacom scored twice in the fifth but Caldwell answered in their half of the inning as Lehmann doubled in two runs. The Cougars tacked on five runs in the sixth as Lehmann had a sacrifice fly, while Richards and Anzalone added run scoring singles.

Freshman
Brandon Scalisi (New City, N.Y.) earned the win, tossing five innings, allowing three runs on eight hits and striking out four to improve to 4-2.

The Cougars travel to Nyack College for a CACC doubleheader on Sunday, April 24 at 11 am.
