With the cancellation of the remainder of the 2019-20 athletics schedule due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Caldwell University Athletic Department will be highlighting its senior student-athletes and telling their stories. These young men and women have competed in their respective sports with the spring seniors losing their final season of competition. Over the coming weeks, CaldwellAthletics.com will recognize these senior student-athletes and give them the opportunity to share their stories and their future plans. Our next senior to be featured is Daniela Solis from Softball
| What is your favorite memory/game during your playing career? |
My favorite memory would probably be winning the CACC championship my sophomore year, we were not expected to pull through in any sense. We, as a team were viewed as underdogs and we truly came together and did the unexpected. It's something I'll never forget.
| Why did you choose Caldwell? |
I chose Caldwell because I was not looking for a huge school but one that offered a sizable community. Caldwell also offered me the opportunity to play softball while still having the option to pursue my major.
| How did you get started participating in softball? |
I started playing softball on a rec team in Delaware, when I was about 10 years old. I started because my sister played and I wanted to be like her and then around 12 years old I began 'travel softball', and the rest was history.
| What made Caldwell special to you? |
There is honestly nothing that can compare to the people that Caldwell has brought me. From teammates to classmates, I could not have asked for a better experience as a student-athlete than that which I was given.
| Who is the toughest opponent you played against and why? |
The toughest opponent was definitely Saint Leo. Every year the girls on Saint Leo showed us a different level of play that I think all of us learned from.
| What is your favorite motivational quote? |
| Name your favorite professor/advisor/staff member and how they had a positive impact on your time at Caldwell. |
My advisor was Ann-Marie Callahan, and I can say truthfully, I could not have asked for a better advisor. Professor Callahan was my biggest advocate all throughout my time at Caldwell and never failed to make me feel cared about. The impact that she has left on me will never be forgotten and I hope to remain in contact past my time at school here.
| What are your plans after graduation? |
I plan to continue into grad school and am seeking a MBA/JD degree to pursue my career in tax law. For the time being I will start my career in a Corporate Development Program and apply my degree and acquired knowledge.
| Do you have a hidden talent? |
I'd say still being confused after playing the sport(softball) for 15 years.
| What is your ultimate vacation destination and why? |
I hope to go to Santorini, Greece just because it's beautiful.
| Other reflections/thank you's/any other memories, teammates you played with, anything else you want to add? |
| Shoutout to Coach Johnson, you made my four years at Caldwell eventful to say the least but I can not thank you enough. Also thank you to Coach Velardi, you're the realist. I also am forever grateful to every single player that I had the honor to play with, each and every one brought incredible talent to the table and I am lucky to have had the time with you. and of course thank you to my parents for all the sacrifice that was put into letting me play the sport I love for so long. |
