MILLSBORO, Del.- The Caldwell University women's bowling team battled Sacred Heart University but saw their outstanding season come to a close in the National Collegiate Women's Bowling Championship Play-In Round.
The Cougars end their season at 53-46 overall, their best record in the program's five seasons.
The play-in round featured a mega match, which included using a best-of-three match format in the following order: five-person team traditional match; baker total pin fall; and a best-of-seven baker match play.
In the traditional play, senior
Amanda Scharf (North Brunswick, N.J.) led the Cougars with a 219. Freshman
Jenna Rapach (Hazleton, Pa.) posted a round of 180, while senior
Madison Miller (West Deptford, N.J.) recorded a 157. Sophomore
Madison Perry (Hawthorne, N.J.) finished with a 153, while senior
Jamie Lee Kulaga (Hazleton, Pa.) rounded out the Caldwell bowlers with a 143. The Cougars finished with a total traditional pin fall of 852 but the Pioneers won the round with a pin fall of 945.
The second part of the match went to five-round baker total pin fall. The Cougars trailed after the first two round but rallied late to edge Sacred Heart 895-881 to force a deciding best of seven round.
Sacred Heart won the match with a 4-0 win in the best of seven round. The Pioneers won 168-150, 191-163, 236-215 and 255-198 to win the match and advance to the Elite 8 against top seed Vanderbilt University next weekend.
