INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.- The Caldwell University women's bowling team, fresh off their first-ever East Coast Conference Championship this past weekend, received their opening round matchup as the 2019 National Collegiate Women's Bowling Championship Bracket was revealed on Wednesday afternoon.
The Cougars will face Sacred Heart University in the play-in round in a mega match that will kick off the tournament on Saturday, April 6 at 1 p.m. The opening round will be hosted by the University of Maryland Eastern Shore at Millsboro Lanes in Millsboro, Delaware. The mega match winner will be determined by using a best-of-three match format in the following order: five-person team traditional match; baker total pin fall; and a best-of-seven baker match play. The winner of the Caldwell-Sacred Heart match will face the top overall seed in the tournament in Vanderbilt University April 11-13 in Wickliffe, Ohio.
Freshman
Jenna Rapach (Hazleton, Pa.) led the Cougars this season as she was selected as the ECC Women's Bowling Rookie of the Year. She was a three-time ECC Rookie of the Week selected and was named the ECC Bowler of the Week. Rapach shined during the ECC Championship as she posted a 20.11 baker average to earn the tournament's Most Outstanding Bowler honor.
In their first season as an associate member of the ECC and fifth year as a varsity program, the Cougars, under fifth year head coach
Ken Yokobosky, earned the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament and will compete in the national tournament for the first time in program history. Caldwell currently holds a 54-45 record this season, which is the best record in the program's five seasons.
