CALDWELL, N.J.- The Caldwell University softball team hit four homeruns as the Cougars swept a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference doubleheader against Post University. Caldwell took the opener 9-0 in five innings and completed the sweep with a 4-2 win in the nightcap.

The Cougars capture the CACC regular season title for a five consecutive season as they improve to 28-16 overall and 22-2 in the CACC. The Eagles drop to 18-24 and 16-10 in conference play.

Caldwell got all their runs in the first inning as senior
Kiahna Silva (Etiwanda, Calif.) and sophomore
Melissa Rini (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) led off with back-to-back homeruns. Senior
Marisa Monasseri (Monroe, N.J.) drew a walk, while freshman
Maya Rodriguez (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) connected on a two-run homerun.

The Cougars added to their lead as freshman
Kaileen Cain (Hauppauge, N.Y.) singled and scored on a homerun by sophomore
Christina Misiur (Sayreville, N.Y.). Caldwell loaded the bases later in the inning as Rini was hit by a pitch to force in a run. Monasseri singled to drive in a pair of runs.

Sophomore
Sara Bearden (Ewing, N.J.) improved to 15-7 on the season as she tossed a one-hit shutout with eight strikeouts in a complete game effort.

In the nightcap, the Cougars took the lead with four runs in the first inning. Rodriguez drove in a run with a single, while Monasseri scored later in the inning on a wild pitch. Freshman
Paige Sandoval (Aliso Viejo, Calif.) added a run scoring single, while junior
Carly Testa (Sicklerville, N.J.) drove in a run with a groundout.

Post added two runs in the sixth but Bearden came on in relief to earn her first save of the season.

Sophomore
Jessie Johnston (Livermore, Calif.) went the first five innings, allowing two runs on seven hits, while striking out three to improve to 13-9. Bearden tossed two scoreless innings, allowing two hits with four strikeouts to earn the save. Â

The Cougars conclude the regular season on Monday, April 30 as they travel to Dominican College for a CACC doubleheader at 2:30 pm. The games will be played at South Orangetown Little League complex in Orangeburg, NY.
