ORANGEBURG, N.Y.- The Caldwell University softball team rapped out 22 hits and four homeruns as the Cougars closed out the regular season with a sweep over Dominican College in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference doubleheader. Caldwell took the opener 7-2 and completed the sweep with a 10-0 win in five innings in game two. The Cougars are the top seed in this week's CACC Championship and will face #8 Jefferson in their opening game on Thursday.
The Cougars win their sixth in a row to improve to 30-16 overall and finish the season at 24-2 in the CACC. The Chargers fall to 22-18 and 16-10 in conference play.
Caldwell struck first in the opening inning as senior
Marisa Monasseri (Monroe, N.J.) connected on a solo homerun. The Cougars added six runs in the fourth as they loaded the bases with all three runners scoring on an error.
The Cougars added to their lead as sophomore
Christina Misiur (Sayreville, N.Y.) drove in a pair of runs with a double, while junior
Carly Testa (Sicklerville, N.J.) hit a run scoring single. Dominican scored two unearned runs in the seventh but the Cougars held tough for a 7-2 win.
Sophomore
Sara Bearden (Ewing, N.J.) struck out a season-high 11 batters in a complete game effort. Bearden (16-7) allowed two unearned runs on four hits in the victory.
In the nightcap, Caldwell took the lead in the first inning as senior
Kiahna Silva (Etiwanda, Calif.) drew a leadoff walk. Monasseri connected on her second homerun of the day for a 2-0 lead.
The Cougars added a run in the second as they took advantage of a Charger error. Caldwell added a pair of runs in the third as freshman
Kaileen Cain (Hauppauge, N.Y.) blasted a two-run homerun.
Caldwell broke the game open in the fourth with five runs. Sophomore
Melissa Rini (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) hit a two-run homerun, while Misiur and Testa added RBI singles. Freshman
Paige Sandoval (Aliso Viejo, Calif.) doubled home two runs for a 10-0 lead.

Jessie Johnston (Livermore, Calif.) pitched a three-hit shutout with one strikeout to improve to 14-9 on the season.
The Cougars are the top seed in this week's CACC Championship and will face #8 Jefferson in their first game on Thursday, May 3 at 10 am. The 2018 CACC Softball Championship will be held on the campus of Georgian Court University in Lakewood, NJ.
