CLERMONT, Fla.- The Caldwell University softball team dropped a pair of game on day two of their Florida trip at the National Training Center. The Cougars fell to Le Moyne College 4-3 and came up short to Southern New Hampshire University 8-5.

In the opening game against Le Moyne, the Cougars took the lead in the fourth inning. Senior
Marisa Monasseri (Monroe, N.J.) singled with two outs, while junior
Carly Testa (Sicklerville, N.J.) and freshman
Kaileen Cain (Hauppauge, N.Y.) followed with singled to put Caldwell in front 1-0.

The Dolphins tied the score with a run in the fifth but the Cougars answered in the bottom of the inning. Sophomore
Christina Misiur (Sayreville, N.J.) singled with one out and pinch runner sophomore
Kelle Lalier (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) moved to second on a sacrifice bunt. Senior
Kiahna Silva (Etiwanda, Calif.) ripped a double to put Caldwell back in the lead at 2-1.

Le Moyne added two runs in the sixth and tacked on one in the seventh to take a 4-2 lead. The Cougars rallied with a run in the seventh inning. Senior
Katelyn Johnson (Denville, N.J.) doubled with one out. Misiur followed with a single to score pinch runner sophomore
Daniela Solis (Wilmington, Del.) but the Cougars came up short of tying the game.

Sophomore
Jessie Johnston (Livermore, Calif.) took the loss in 5 1/3 innings pitched, allowing three runs on six hits. Sophomore
Sara Bearden (Ewing, N.J.) pitched the final 1 2/3 innings, allowing one run on two hits and struck out two.Â
In the second game of the day against the Penmen, Southern New Hampshire took the early lead with two runs in the third inning. Caldwell got on the board in the fourth as freshman
Maya Rodriguez (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) drove in a run with a groundout.

The Cougars rallied back in the fifth inning as they loaded the bases. Solis and Lalier singled with one out, while sophomore
Melissa Rini (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) reached base on an error. Monasseri cleared the bases with a three-run double to put the Cougars in the lead at 4-2. Caldwell wasn't finished in the inning as they loaded the bases again and Johnson drew a walk to force in a run for a 5-2 lead.

The Penmen battled back to tie the score with three runs in their half of the fifth and added three runs in the sixth to take the win.

Bearden tossed 4 1/3 innings, allowing five runs (two earned) on five hits and struck out five. Johnston took the loss as she went the final 1 2/3 innings, allowing three runs (two earned) on four hits.

The Cougars are back in action on Sunday, March 11 as they face Wayne St. University and University of Sioux Falls at the National Training Center in Clermont, Florida.
