Women’s Bowling Set to Host Cougar Classic This Weekend

CALDWELL, N.J.- The Caldwell University women's bowling team is slated to host the Cougar Classic this weekend, the first home tournament in program history. The tournament kicks off on Friday, October 26 and concludes on Sunday, October 28. The CU Cougar Classic will be held at Rockaway Lanes in Rockaway New Jersey.

Caldwell is off to a strong start to the 2018-19 season as they have competed in two tournaments this month. The Cougars have five wins this season with four coming in their season opening tournament at Kutztown University's Bud Whitman Memorial. Freshman Jenna Rapach (Hazleton, Pa.) finished in 17th place with a five-round traditional average of 182 in her first collegiate competition.

In last weekend's Bowl for the Cure hosted by Sacred Heart University, senior Amanda Scharf (North Brunswick, N.J.) led the Cougars with a 180 traditional average in five rounds with a high round of 198.

The women's bowling team is in their fifth year as a varsity program at Caldwell and this season moved to the East Coast Conference as an associate member. The Cougars were selected to finish in fifth place in the ECC Women's Bowling Preseason Coaches Poll.

Caldwell welcomes 11 schools to this weekend's inaugural Cougar Classic. Among the schools that are participating are University of Maryland Eastern Shore, St. Francis College Brooklyn, Fairleigh Dickinson University, St. Francis University, Sacred Heart and Delaware St. University. The Cougars will also compete against fellow ECC members Molloy College, Felician University, Bloomfield College, Adelphi University and Kutztown.

This weekend will also be the "Green Game" for the women's bowling team as the Caldwell Athletics Department raises awareness about mental health issues. Green t-shirts will be sold for $10 and green wristbands for $1 by the Caldwell University Breaks Stigma Committee (CUBS) with all proceeds going to the National Alliance on Mental Illness. The Caldwell University Book Store will be selling Caldwell gear throughout the weekend.
