Women’s Bowling Advances to First-Ever NEC Championships Final Four; Fall in Championship Bracket

HOWELL, N.J.- The Caldwell University women's bowling team concluded their season on Saturday as the #6 seed Cougars won twice to advance to their first-ever Northeast Conference Championships Final Four. The Cougars came up short in the championship bracket but battled against the top teams in the conference.
 
In their opening match against St. Francis College Brooklyn, the Cougars fell 4.5-1.5. The Terriers took the opening game 234-155 but Caldwell evened the match with a 184-174 win in game two. St. Francis won game three 202-160 and the teams tied in game four at 155. The Terriers took the match with a 200-166 win in game five and 170-108 win in game six.
 
Caldwell fell into the elimination bracket of the qualifying round where they faced #4 seed Saint Francis University (Pa.). The Cougars took the opening game 226-154 but the Red Flash won game two 213-174. Caldwell won game three 243-189 but Saint Francis evened the match with a 200-194 win in game four. The Cougars won match with a 182-150 win in game five and 170-156 win in game six to win the match 4-2.
 
The Cougars continued in the qualifying round where they faced #5 LIU Brooklyn in another elimination match. Caldwell edged the Blackbirds in game one 186-184. LIU Brooklyn went up 2-1 with a 236-141 win in game two and a 189-182 win in game three. The Cougars evened the match with a 195-188 win in game four. The Blackbirds went back in front 3-2 with a 161-158 win in game five. Caldwell took the match with two wins in the final two games. The Cougars won game six 168-165 and won game seven 194-151 to win the match 4-3 as they advanced to their first-ever championship round.
 
In the double-elimination championship bracket, Caldwell took on top seed Sacred Heart University. The Pioneers took the first three games 212-162, 191-180 and 211-149. The Cougars took game four 193-181 but Sacred Heart won game five 184-158 to take the match 4-1.
 
Caldwell faced St. Francis Brooklyn in the championship round elimination match. The Terriers won 4-0 as they took the match 177-176, 213-174, 213-193 and 181-158, which eliminated the Cougars from the tournament.
