WALLINGFORD, Conn.- The Caldwell University women's bowling team opened up conference play at Northeast Conference Meet #1 with a win over nationally ranked Fairleigh Dickinson University. The opening day of the tournament featured six traditional rounds with Caldwell having a bye due to only seven conference participants.
Caldwell opened the tournament with a 913-861 loss to Saint Francis College Brooklyn and fell to Sacred Heart University 1,017-800.
The Cougars earned a 916-895 victory against FDU, who is ranked in the top-10 in the country in the National Tenpin Coaches Association (NTCA) Coaches Poll. Caldwell fell in their final two matches of the first day as they were edged by Saint Francis University (Pa.) 901-880 and lost to LIU Brooklyn 892-840.
The Cougars had several individual standouts as three Cougars finished in the top-20 after day one. Sophomore
Amanda Scharf (North Brunswick, N.J) led Caldwell as she ended the day in seventh place with a six round average of 195.67 and a high round of 219. Junior
Daniele Roca (Garden City Park, N.Y.) finished the day in 12th place with a six round average of 185.50 and a high round of 211.
Sophomore
Jamie Lee Kulaga (West Hazelton, Pa.) placed 17th after day one with a six round average of 172.83 and a high round of 210. Sophomore
Alexis Policastro (Carteret, N.J.) finished in 29th place with a five round average of 166.0 and a high round of 177.
The Cougars return to the lanes for final day of the NEC Meet #1 on Sunday, December 4 in Wallingford, CT. The final day of the conference meet features one traditional round followed by baker format rounds.
