Box Score LITTLE FALLS, N.J. – The Caldwell College baseball team lost a non-conference game to Bloomfield College, 8-7 Friday night at Yogi Berra Stadium. The Cougars are now 6-27, while the Deacons improve to 11-22.
After Bloomfield took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second, senior
Paul Nyitray (Cranford, NJ/St. Joseph) doubled home freshman
Ryan Rivera (Saddle Brook, NJ/St. Joseph) and scored on an error in the top of the third for a 2-1 Caldwell advantage. The Deacons regained the lead with two runs in the third and another in the fourth to make the score 4-2.
Then in the sixth, the Cougars struck for four runs to pull ahead, 6-4. Sophomore
Alex Rodriguez (Merrick, NY/Calhoun) hit a two-run double and also scored in the inning, while senior
Thomas Pisano (N. Bellmore, NY/Mepham) drove in a run. Caldwell answered a Bloomfield run in the sixth with a run in the seventh on a sacrifice fly from Nyitray to make the score 7-5. But the Deacons scored three times in the bottom of the seventh, including a two-run double from Kevin Caraballo.
Senior
Andrew Nunez (East Elmhurst, NY/Cardozo) had three hits for Caldwell, while Rivera and Rodriguez had two hits apiece.
The Cougars conclude the 2014 season with another non-league game with Bloomfield on Sunday, May 4. Fifteen seniors will play in their final game for Caldwell. The first pitch is at 12:00 p.m. at the Kiwanis Oval.
