Box Score 2 PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - The Caldwell College baseball team lost a pair of games to Philadelphia University, 2-1 and 11-5 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference doubleheader Saturday afternoon on the road. The results drop the Cougars to 2-15 overall and 0-8 in league play, while the Rams improve to 10-15, 4-4 CACC.
In the first game, Philadelphia scored unearned runs in the first and third innings to take a 2-0 lead. Then in the top of the sixth, senior
Joe O'Donnell (Belleville, NJ/Belleville) hit a solo home run, his first of the season, to make the score 2-1 Rams. But the Cougars managed just one hit after the sixth inning, as pitcher Cory Dean retired nine of the final 10 batters to wrap up the win.
Junior
Michael Sheridan (Caldwell, NJ/Seton Hall Prep) started and gave up the two unearned runs on seven hits in five innings of work. Junior
Robert Humes (Berlin, NJ/Winslow Twp.) pitched three scoreless innings in relief, while O'Donnell and senior
Paul Nyitray (Cranford, NJ/St. Joseph) each had two hits. Dean held the Cougars to one run on five hits while fanning eight in the complete-game victory.

Andrew Nunez (East Elmhurst, NY/Cardozo) came home on a single by freshman
Ryan Rivera (Saddle Brook, NJ/St. Joseph) in the top of the first inning for a 1-0 lead. The Rams responded with two runs in the bottom of the first to pull ahead, 2-1. After another Philadelphia run in the fourth, the Cougars scored four times in the top of the fifth to lead, 5-3. Rivera, sophomores
Richard Evaniecki (Bloomfield, NJ/Bloomfield) and
Alex Rodriguez (Merrick, NY/Calhoun), and senior
Stephen Dodd (Milford, PA/Delaware Valley) each had RBIs in the inning.
Again the Rams answered, scoring four runs, all with two out, in the bottom of the fifth to take back the lead, 7-5. Philadelphia added two runs in the seventh and two more in the eighth for the 11-5 win. Rivera and Rodriguez delivered two hits apiece for Caldwell in the loss.
The Cougars return to action on Tuesday, Apr. 8 when they face USciences in a CACC doubleheader in Philadelphia, Pa. The first game begins at 12:00 p.m.
