BRONXVILLE, N.Y. – The Caldwell College women's basketball team defeated Concordia College, 72-61 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game Tuesday night in the Meyer Athletic Center. The win clinches a berth in the CACC Tournament for the Cougars (14-10 overall), who are in second place in the North Division with a 12-5 league record. The Clippers fall to 0-24, 0-17 CACC.
Caldwell took the upper hand early in the first half, getting two three-pointers and 10 points from freshman guard
Antoinette Pilla (Scarsdale, NY/Ardsley) in building a 24-7 lead over the first 10 minutes of the game. The Cougars stayed in control throughout the half, hitting 6-of-11 from beyond the arc before taking a 38-24 advantage at the break.
The three-pointer continued to be a weapon for Caldwell in the second half, as threes from sophomore guard
Nicole Angelo (Mount Laurel, NJ/Camden Catholic) and junior guard
Jessica Coscia (Staten Island, NY/Moore Catholic) helped the Cougars expand their lead to 59-31 with 13:15 remaining. The Clippers used five threes, including three treys from Mariah Berry, to get as close as 67-56 with 1:45 left to play. But it was not enough to prevent Caldwell from winning its third in a row.
The Cougars enjoyed a huge advantage at the free throw line, making 22-of-35 compared to just 2-of-4 for Concordia. A finalist in last year's CACC Tournament, Caldwell will make its seventh consecutive appearance in the conference tournament this season. The quarterfinals begin on Mar. 1, with the semifinals and finals to be held Mar. 7-8 at Caldwell.
Five Cougars scored in double figures, led by senior forward
Jeanette Anderson (Lynn, MA/Lynn English) with 14 points, and freshman forward
