Caldwell Falls to No. 5 Holy Family in CACC Finals

Box Score
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Caldwell College women's basketball team lost to fifth-ranked Holy Family University, 66-56 in the championship game of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournament, held at the University of the Sciences' Morgan Arena Saturday afternoon. The Cougars end their season at 19-12, while the Tigers (27-2) receive the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Division II East Regional next week.

With the score tied at 22-22 with 4:36 left in the first half, Caldwell scored the next 10 points, including four from sophomore forward Emily Caswell (Wakefield, RI/Prout School), to lead 32-22 with 2:24 left. The run helped the Cougars take a 36-27 advantage into halftime. Freshman guard Nicole Angelo (Mount Laurel, NJ/Camden Catholic) made three three-pointers en route to 15 points in the first period.

Holy Family quickly got back into the game by scoring the first eight points of the second half to make the score 36-35 with 17 minutes remaining. Caswell halted the run with a three-pointer, which sparked a 9-4 run that gave the Cougars a 45-39 lead with 12:55 on the clock. Caldwell still held the upper hand, 53-50 with six minutes to play when the Tigers reeled off a 12-1 run that included six points from CACC Player of the Year Erin Mann to lead 62-54 with 1:27 left. The Cougars never came closer than six points the rest of the way, suffering their first defeat since Dec. 18, 2012. The 15-game winning streak is the longest in the program's history.

Senior guard Torey Jones (Providence, RI/LaSalle Acad.) led Caldwell with 20 points in her final game as a Cougar. Fellow senior Gillian Felix (Mahopac, NY/Mahopac) grabbed a team-best 12 rebounds to go with six points and three blocks, while junior forward Jeanette Anderson (Lynn, MA/Lynn English) had eight points and eight boards. Jones and Anderson were included on the All-Tournament Team.

Mann, who was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player, tallied 26 points, nine rebounds, five blocks and three steals for Holy Family. The Tigers won the CACC Tournament for the second year in a row.

Caldwell, the top seed in the North, was making the program's sixth appearance in the CACC Tournament finals and the first since 2003, when the Cougars won the CACC championship.
