Big Second Half Lifts Cougars Over Concordia, 104-58

Box Score CALDWELL, N.J. – The Caldwell College women's basketball team scored 61 points in the second half to cruise past Concordia College, 104-58 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game Wednesday evening at the George R. Newman Center. The victory gives the Cougars (4-6) a 3-1 record in the conference, while the Clippers fall to 0-12 overall, 0-5 CACC.

The offensive outburst marked the third time since the 1991-92 season that Caldwell eclipsed 100 points in a game. The Cougars scored a school-record 108 points in a victory over Goldey-Beacom College on Jan 15, 2005.

Caldwell led for most of the first half but could not get much separation from the Clippers, who trailed by only three points with a minute remaining in the half. Freshman guard Antoinette Pilla (Scarsdale, NY/Ardsley) drained a three-pointer with 51 seconds left, then followed a Concordia turnover with two free throws to give the Cougars a 43-35 advantage at the break. Caldwell made 6-of-12 from three-point range but allowed the Clippers to grab 13 offensive rebounds and score 13 second-chance points in the half.

The Cougars took control in the second half, outscoring Concordia 23-6 over the first nine minutes to take a commanding 66-41 lead. Senior forward Jeanette Anderson (Lynn, MA/Lynn) tallied 13 points in the run that saw the Clippers shoot 3-of-11 from the field and commit five turnovers. Concordia never came closer than 20 points, as the lead grew to as many as 48 points. Caldwell continued to shoot well from long range, hitting 7-of-10 from beyond the arc and 56.4 percent from the floor in the second half. The Cougars dished out 30 assists, led by 14 from senior guard Marielle Duryea (Middle Village, NY/Archbishop Molloy), and had just 11 turnovers.

Anderson led all players with 28 points on 11-of-17 shooting from the field. She also added 10 rebounds for her fifth double-double of the season. Sophomore guard Nicole Angelo (Mount Laurel, NJ/Camden Catholic) made five three-pointers en route to 15 points, and Pilla finished with 14 points and four assists. Freshman forward Alyssa James (Rosedale, NY/St. Mary's) had an outstanding night defensively, grabbing a career-high 16 rebounds, including 13 on the defensive glass, and blocking a career-best six shots. Jessica Rosalbo and Victoria Rubin each had 12 points for Concordia.

Caldwell plays its final non-conference game on Saturday, Dec. 21 at Southern New Hampshire, beginning at 1:30 p.m. in Manchester, N.H.
