Box Score
CALDWELL, N.J. - The Caldwell College women's basketball team overcame a 12-point second half deficit to defeat 11th-ranked Holy Family University, 53-52 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game Saturday afternoon in the George R. Newman Center. The victory is the first over the Tigers in the last 22 meetings for the Cougars, who improve to 5-11 overall and 3-4 in league play. Holy Family falls to 12-2, 6-1 CACC.

Trailing 50-38 with 10:20 to play, Caldwell used an 11-0 run that included three-pointers from freshman guard Fahime Farzanessa (Cologne, Germany/Humboldt) and junior guard Marielle Duryea (Middle Village, NY/Archbishop Molloy) to make it a one-point game, 50-49 with 6:21 on the clock. After Kelly Brady scored for a 52-49 lead, the score stayed the same until the 2:00 mark, when senior guard Torey Jones (Providence, RI/LaSalle Acad.) scored on a driving lay-up.

Holy Family missed a three on its next possession, and the Cougars grabbed two rebounds on the offensive glass, the second one by senior center Gillian Felix (Mahopac, NY/Mahopac). Felix was fouled and hit both free throws for a 53-52 Caldwell lead with 1:14 remaining. After two empty possessions, the Tigers were forced to foul with 20 seconds left. Caldwell missed the front end of a one-and-one, giving Holy Family another chance. But three lay-ups from close in were off the mark, and Caldwell ended the Tigers' 12-game winning streak.

The Cougars took a 30-28 halftime lead behind eight points apiece from junior forward Jeanette Anderson (Lynn, MA/Lynn English) and freshman guard Nicole Angelo (Mount Laurel, NJ/Camden Catholic). Holy Family opened the second half with a 12-2 run for a 40-32 advantage, then used threes from Maggie Serratelli and Ana Cruz to lead 50-38, setting up Caldwell's big comeback. The Cougars held the Tigers to 1-of-15 shooting from the field and forced seven turnovers over the final 10 minutes of the game to earn the upset. Caldwell last beat Holy Family on Dec. 18, 2000 by the score of 76-73 in overtime.

Anderson led all players with 12 points and 10 rebounds, while Angelo finished with 10 points. Jones registered six assists to go with seven points and three steals, and Felix and sophomore forward Emily Caswell (Wakefield, RI/Prout School) each added eight points apiece. Cruz and Molloy Hanlon each scored 10 points to lead Holy Family.

Next up for the Cougars is another CACC match-up with Felician College on Wednesday, Jan. 9, beginning at 6:00 p.m. in Rutherford, N.J.
