NEWARK, N.J. – The Caldwell College baseball team split a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference doubleheader with Bloomfield College, winning the first game 4-0 before falling 12-5 in Game 2. The results give the Cougars a 4-13 record on the season, including a 4-1 mark in conference play. The Deacons are now 13-10, 7-1 CACC.

In the first game, Caldwell took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on a sacrifice fly from senior Jorge Ynoa (Bayside, NY/Bayside) that plated sophomore Stephen Dodd (Milford, PA/Delaware Valley). Then in the fifth, sophomore Stephen Luczaj (N. Merrick, NY/Mepham) singled home sophomore Paul Nyitray (Cranford, NJ/St. Joseph's) and Ynoa hit a two-run double to make the score 4-0.

Freshman right-hander Dan Bartlett (Levittown, NY/Island Trees) kept the Deacons off balance, scattering five hits while walking two and striking out four over nine innings for his first career shutout. Dodd, Nyitray, Lucjaz and junior Adolfo Lopez (Ontario, CA/Ontario) each recorded two hits for Caldwell.

Bloomfield scored its first two runs of the day in the first inning of Game 2, and put 11 runs on the scoreboard over the first five innings to take a commanding 11-1 lead. Caldwell scored an unearned run in the bottom of the fourth on a Nyitray grounder, then Ynoa and sophomore Andrew Nunez (East Elmhurst, NY/Cardozo) homered in the fifth to make the score 11-4. The Deacons added a run in the sixth, while sophomore Joe O'Donnell (Belleville, NJ/Belleville) hit a sacrifice fly to score Nunez in the ninth.

Rafael Medina went 4-for-4 with six runs batted in for Bloomfield, which drew 10 walks and stole seven bases in the win.

The Cougars play a non-conference game at C.W. Post on Thursday, Mar. 29, beginning at 3:00 p.m. in Brookville, N.Y.
