PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Caldwell College women's basketball team lost a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game to Holy Family University, 82-61 Saturday afternoon at the Campus Center. The result drops the Cougars to 12-9 overall and 9-5 in conference play, while the Tigers improve to 16-7, 12-2 CACC.
Holy Family broke open a close game by closing out the first half with a 14-7 run, turning a one-point game into a 42-33 lead at the break. Kelly Brady scored 14 points on 7-of-7 shooting from the field, while junior guard Torey Jones (Providence, RI/LaSalle Acad.) had 12 points to lead Caldwell in the first half.
Brady and Erin Mann each tallied six points as the Tigers opened the second half with a 12-2 run to extend the lead to 54-35. The Cougars answered with nine straight points to cut the deficit to 55-46 with 11:46 to play. But that's as close as the visitors would get, as Holy Family reeled off a 17-5 run to take a commanding 72-51 advantage and put the game out of reach. The Tigers shot 49.2 percent from the floor compared to 35.3 percent for Caldwell.
Jones finished with a team-high 20 points while making 4-of-9 from three-point range. Senior forward Kaitlyn Lambert (Cumberland, RI/Cumberland) grabbed 12 rebounds to go with six points and four assists, while sophomore forward Jeanette Anderson (Lynn, MA/Lynn English) added 10 points and seven boards. Brady ended up with a game-high 22 points, and Mann had 15 points, nine rebounds and five steals to pace the Tigers.
Caldwell hosts Post University in a CACC battle on Thursday, Feb. 9. Game time is set for 6:00 p.m. in the George R. Newman Center.
