CALDWELL, N.J. - The Caldwell College women's basketball team earned its seventh straight victory with a 65-52 win over visiting Concordia College in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game Thursday night in the George R. Newman Center. The Cougars are now 8-5 overall and 5-1 in league play, while the Clippers drop to 3-10, 2-4 CACC.
Caldwell controlled the game from the start, using tough defense and timely shooting to take a 34-20 halftime lead. The Cougars held Concordia to just four field goals on 14.8 percent shooting in the first half while forcing 15 turnovers. Junior guard Torey Jones (Providence, RI/LaSalle Acad.), who closed out the half with a three-pointer, and freshman forward Emily Caswell (Wakefield, RI/Prout School) each had eight points in the first half.
A pair of threes from Krystina Agard helped the Clippers pull to within 10 points midway through the second half. But a 9-0 run that included six points from sophomore forward Jeanette Anderson (Lynn, MA/Lynn) and three from junior center Gillian Felix (Mahopac, NY/Mahopac) pushed the Caldwell lead to 60-41 with five minutes remaining. The Cougars scored 26 of their 31 second-half points in the paint to cruise to their seventh win in a row.
The game had little flow, as the teams combined for 47 turnovers. Caldwell grabbed 23 offensive rebounds to take a commanding 57-42 advantage on the glass. Anderson notched her ninth double-double of the season with a game-high 18 points and 15 rebounds. Jones finished with 12 points, six assists and four steals, while Felix ended up with nine points and seven boards. Agard led Concordia with 17 points.
Caldwell returns to action on Saturday, Jan. 7 with another CACC contest against Wilmington University. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m. in the George R. Newman Center.
