CALDWELL, N.J. - The Caldwell College women's basketball team earned a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victory at home with an 82-72 decision over Nyack College Tuesday night in the George R. Newman Center. The Cougars improve to 11-7 overall and 8-3 in the conference with the win, while Nyack drops to 1-12, 1-7 CACC.
Caldwell erased a seven-point deficit midway through the first half with a 21-6 run, buoyed by 12 points from sophomore forward Jeanette Anderson (Lynn, MA/Lynn English), to take a 34-26 lead with four minutes left in the half. The Warriors answered by scoring the next nine points to lead 35-34 one minute before halftime. A pair of free throws by freshman guard Jessica Coscia (Staten Island, NY/Moore Catholic) sent the Cougars into the break with a 36-25 advantage. Anderson notched 14 points while junior guard Torey Jones (Providence, RI/LaSalle Acad.) added 11 in the first period.
Nyack opened the second half with a basket and a three from Ashley Tallman to regain the lead. But four points from Jones sparked an 8-0 spree that gave the Cougars the upper hand, 44-40 with 16:18 remaining. Caldwell extended the lead to as many as 12 points and kept the Warriors from getting closer than four the rest of the way to end a two-game losing skid. The Cougars made 7-of-14 from three-point range and went 23-of-30 from the free throw line compared to 5-of-8 for Nyack.
Jones finished with a game-high 23 points to go with six rebounds and five assists, while Anderson had 22 points and a team-best eight boards. Senior guard Willeen Capehart (Providence, RI/LaSalle Acad.) tallied career highs of 12 points and five assists, and senior guard Stephanie Cadet (Elmont, NY/Elmont Memorial) had nine points, four assists and four steals. Khamari Tellis and Tallman each scored 17 points to lead Nyack.
