EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. - For the second straight game, sophomore forward Mosiah Whyte (Coram, NY/Newfield) scored a pair of goals to lift the Caldwell College men's soccer team to a 2-0 victory over host East Stroudsburg University at the Warriors' tournament Sunday afternoon at Eiler-Martin Stadium. The win gives the Cougars a 2-0 record on the season, while the Warriors drop to 1-1.
Whyte opened the scoring with an unassisted goal in the eighth minute for a 1-0 Caldwell lead. The score remained 1-0 until Whyte tallied an insurance goal in the 83rd minute to put the game out of reach. The performance follows up Saturday's two-goal effort in Caldwell's 3-0 win over Concord. Going back to last season, Whyte has scored 12 goals in his last 11 games.
The defense kept the Warriors at bay all game, as junior goalkeeper Brian Agostini (N. Caldwell, NJ/West Essex) made three saves to record his first career shutout. Agostini and freshman Alex Cunha (Kearny, NJ/Kearny) combined for the shutout on Saturday.
Caldwell plays its first home game of the 2011 season on Wednesday, Sept. 7, when the Cougars host Bloomsburg University at Caldwell Field. The non-conference game starts at 4:00 p.m.
