The Caldwell College baseball team was defeated by Pace University, 12-2

CALDWELL, N.J. - The Caldwell College baseball team was defeated by Pace University, 12-2 in a non-conference game Thursday afternoon at the Kiwanis Oval. The loss drops the Cougars to 14-16 on the season, while the Setters improve to 12-16-1.

Pace scored four runs in the top of the first and led 6-0 before Caldwell got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the third inning. Freshman Thomas Pisano (N. Bellmore, NY/Mepham) led off with a double and later scored on a double by freshman Stephen Luczaj (N. Merrick, NJ/Mepham). The Cougars' other run came in the eighth, when Caldwell loaded the bases on two hit-batsmen and a walk. Freshman Andrew Nunez (East Elmhurst, NY/Cardozo) followed with a walk to score freshman Phil Ragusa (Staten Island, NY/St. Joseph by the Sea). Pisano, pictured, finished with two of Caldwell's five hits on the day.

Pace's Kyle Turnier went 4-for-6 with three doubles and six runs batted in, as the Setters pounded out 16 hits. Edward Byrne pitched five innings to earn the win, while junior A.J. Boardman (Sunnyside, NY/St. Francis Prep) took the loss.

Next up for Caldwell is a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference doubleheader at 12th-ranked Wilmington University on Saturday, Apr. 16. The first game starts at 12:00 p.m. in New Castle, Del.
