RUTHERFORD, N.J. - Sophomore guard Torey Jones (Providence, RI/LaSalle Acad.) registered 22 points to lead the Caldwell College women's basketball team to a 75-62 victory over Felician College in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game Thursday night at Job Gymnasium. The win extends the Cougars' winning streak to four and gives them a 7-3 record on the season, including a 3-1 mark in conference play. The Golden Falcons drop to 8-3, 2-2 CACC.
The first half was a close affair, with eight ties and six lead changes. Three-pointers by junior guards Stephanie Cadet (Elmont, NY/Elmont Memorial) and Willeen Capehart (Providence, RI/LaSalle Acad.) helped Caldwell build the biggest lead of the half, 32-28 with just under five minutes left. After Felician's Quay Baskerville scored the next seven points to give the hosts a 35-32 lead, a free throw by sophomore center Gillian Felix (Mahopac, NY/Mahopac) and a basket from Capehart allowed the Cougars to tie the score at 35-35 at the break. Baskerville racked up 19 points in the half for Felician, while Jones had 11 points for the Cougars.
The score remained tied into the second half before Caldwell reeled off a 13-2 run to take a 55-44 advantage with 9:29 to play. Freshman forward Jeanette Anderson (Lynn, MA/Lynn English) scored seven points in the run that saw Felician shoot 1-of-11 from the field. The Golden Falcons were able to get within seven points, but the Cougars maintained the upper hand, building the lead to as many as 13 points to clinch the victory. Caldwell tightened up the defense in the second half, holding Felician to 25.6 percent shooting from the field after halftime while making 52.4 percent of its own field goal attempts.
Jones, pictured, hit all seven of her free throw shots while making 3-of-6 from three point range en route to a team-high 22 points. Anderson recorded her third double-double of the season with 16 points and 13 rebounds, with Cadet adding 13 points. Caldwell turned the ball over 28 times, but compensated by hitting 19-of-24 (79.2 percent) from the free throw line and 8-of-17 (47.1 percent) from beyond the arc. Baskerville finished with a game-high 27 points to go with 10 rebounds and three steals for Felician.
