FLUSHING, N.Y. - The Caldwell College men's soccer team scored a season-high four goals, all in the second half, to defeat Queens College 4-2 in a non-conference match Tuesday afternoon at Queens' Campus Field. With the win, the Cougars improve to 3-6 on the season, while the Knights fall to 2-6.
The game remained scoreless until the 63rd minute, when freshman midfielder Kristopher Bistre (Staten Island, NY/St. Peter's), right, scored on a free kick from just outside the penalty area for a 1-0 Caldwell lead. Then in the 77th minute, freshman forward Mosiah Whyte (Coram, NY/Newfield) made it 2-0 when he clanged a shot off the right post and into the goal for his third tally of the season. Less than two minutes later, Queens pulled to within one goal when the Knights were awarded a penalty kick, which was converted by Danny Stoker. Caldwell answered with a penalty kick of its own in the 83rd minute, with senior defender Rob Arena (Sparta, NJ/Sparta) scoring to put the Cougars on top 3-1. Two minutes later, sophomore midfielder Chris Skarbelis (North Andover, MA/Leonardtown) scored off a pass from sophomore midfielder Donald Kafer (Bordentown, NJ/Bordentown) for a 4-1 advantage. Stoker scored again for Queens on another penalty kick in the 87th minute.
Junior goalkeeper John Londono (West New York, NJ/Memorial) made five saves in goal for Caldwell, allowing only the two penalty kicks. Demetrios Touros recorded five saves for the Knights, who out-shot the Cougars 21-10.
Caldwell hosts Felician College on Thursday, Sept. 30 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game. Kick-off is set for 4:00 p.m. at Caldwell Field.
