CALDWELL BASEBALL FALLS TO CONCORDIA IN COMPLETION OF SUSPENDED GAME

PARSIPPANY, N.J. - The Caldwell College baseball team lost a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game to Concordia College, 5-3 Thursday afternoon at Smith Field. The game actually began back on Apr. 11 and was suspended in the bottom of the sixth inning due to darkness. The result drops the Cougars to 15-18 overall and 11-7 in conference play, while the Clippers improve to 25-21, 10-8 CACC.

The game resumed with Concordia leading 2-1 in the bottom of the sixth with two out and senior Juan Pinero (Bronx, NY/Christopher Columbus) on second base. Concordia pitcher Tommy Paradise fanned the first batter he faced to end the inning. In the bottom of the seventh, the Cougars tied the game when senior Andrew Robertson (Coral Springs, FL/Taravella) roped a single into left-centerfield that scored freshman Adolfo Lopez (Ontario, CA/Ontario) from second to make the score 2-2. The Clippers answered with two runs in the top of the eighth inning for a 4-2 advantage. Luis Gonzalez had a run-scoring single and Donnie Roth drew a bases-loaded walk. Back-to-back doubles from Difre Reyes and Gonzalez in the top of the ninth made the score 5-2 Concordia. Caldwell scored a run in the bottom of the ninth, when pinch-runner Anthony Morena (Westbury, NY/Holy Cross) came home from third on an error. But Paradise induced a fly ball for the final out and a split of the season series.

Back on Apr. 11 after Caldwell had won the first game with Concordia 13-11, the Cougars answered a Clippers' run in the top of the first with one of their own in the bottom of the first on a RBI single by sophomore Jorge Ynoa (Bayside, NY/Bayside). Reyes broke the tie with a single in the fifth that plated David Perlleshi for a 2-1 Concordia lead. Robertson finished the game 3-for-5 with an RBI, while Pinero had two hits in the loss.

Sophomore A.J. Boardman (Sunnyside, NY/St. Francis Prep) started for Caldwell and allowed four runs, three earned, on 10 hits and five walks while striking out 11 in 7 2/3 innings. Paradise went the distance for the Clippers, striking out 12 batters while giving up three runs, two earned, on nine hits.

The Cougars complete the regular season with a CACC doubleheader against Wilmington University on Friday, Apr. 30. The first game begins at 1:00 p.m. at Smith Field in Parsippany, N.J.
