DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. - The Caldwell College baseball team lost a non-conference game to Mercy College, 9-1 Thursday afternoon at Mavericks Field. The defeat drops the Cougars to 5-10 on the season, while the Mavericks improve to 5-8.
Mercy took an early lead with two runs in the bottom of the second. Then in the third, the Mavericks put four runs on the board without a hit, taking advantage of seven walks from Caldwell pitching. The Cougars never recovered, managing just one run off a single by sophomore Joe Doerrer (Middletown, NJ/Raritan) in the top of the ninth. For the game Caldwell had seven hits, including four in five innings off of starter Charles DeHart, who earned the victory. Doerrer and senior Miguel Perdomo (Teaneck, NJ/Bergen Catholic) each had two hits for the Cougars. Sophomore Matt Cook (Manalapan, NJ/Manalapan) started and allowed three hits and three runs while walking three and striking out three in two innings.
Caldwell plays a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference doubleheader at Chestnut Hill College on Saturday, Mar. 27. The first game begins at 12:00 p.m. in Philadelphia, Pa.
