CALDWELL EARNS WIN OVER CHEYNEY ON THE ROAD, 74-49


CHEYNEY, Pa. - The Caldwell College women's basketball team picked up a non-conference victory at Cheyney University, 74-49 at Cope Hall Tuesday evening. The win improves the Cougars' overall record to 2-2, while the Lady Wolves fall to 2-3 on the season. Sophomore guard Torey Jones (Providence, RI/LaSalle Acad.) tallied 16 points, six rebounds, seven assists and four steals to lead the way for Caldwell.

The Cougars jumped out to a 20-7 lead over the first eight minutes of the first half, with Jones scoring eight points and senior guard Kirsty Leedham (Ellesmere Port, England/Cheshire Acad.) hitting a pair of three-pointers. A 10-2 run by Cheyney cut the lead to 22-17, but Caldwell responded by closing out the half on an 18-5 spree to take a 40-22 advantage at the half. Jones had 12 points on 6-of-12 shooting from the field in the game's first 20 minutes.

The Cougars maintained the upper hand in the second half, and two three-pointers from junior guard Stephanie Cadet (Elmont, NY/Elmont Memorial) helped Caldwell take its largest lead of the game, 62-32 with 10:40 remaining. The Lady Wolves never came closer than 21 points the rest of the way, as the Cougars cruised to its second win over Cheyney in as many years.

Jones and Leedham each scored a game-high 16 points in the win, with Leedham making 4-of-9 from three-point range. Cadet, pictured, finished with 11 points, four rebounds and two steals, while sophomore center Gillian Felix (Mahopac, NY/Mahopac) and freshman forward Jeanette Anderson (Lynn, MA/Lynn English) grabbing nine rebounds apiece. Caldwell swiped 20 steals for the game and forced 28 Cheyney turnovers, as senior guard Abena George (Elmont, NY/Elmont Memorial) matched Jones with four steals and Felix and Anderson notched three steals each.

The Cougars begin Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play on Tuesday, Dec. 7 with a game at Nyack College. Tip-off is set for 6:00 p.m. in Nyack, N.Y.
