CALDWELL, N.J. - Three goals in the final 20 minutes of play lifted the Caldwell College men's soccer team to a 3-0 victory over Holy Family University in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference match Sunday afternoon at Caldwell Field. The Cougars move to 4-6 overall and 2-4 in league play, while the Tigers drop to 3-4-3, 1-3-2 CACC.
After 70 minutes of scoreless action, junior midfielder Kieran Bisland (Paisley, Scotland/St. Andrew's) headed home a corner kick from freshman midfielder Kristopher Bistre (Staten Island, NY/St. Peter's) to put the Cougars on top 1-0. Just 28 seconds later, sophomore defender Brendan Hughes (Lyndhurst, NJ/Lyndhurst) pounced on a loose ball and blasted a shot from 25 yards out into the right side of the goal for a 2-0 lead. Freshman forward Mosiah Whyte (Coram, NY/Newfield) made it 3-0 in the 81st minute when he took advantage of a misplayed ball by the goalkeeper and scored into an open net for his team-leading fourth goal of the season. The victory is Caldwell's second in a row.
The game was marred by an incident in the final minute of the game that resulted in four ejections and three yellow cards.
Junior goalkeeper John Londono (West New York, NJ/Memorial) recorded five saves for his second shutout of the season. Holy Family's Mark Ferretti had two saves in the loss.
Caldwell takes on Nyack College in a CACC contest on Tuesday, Oct. 5. The game begins at 3:30 p.m. in Nyack, N.Y.
