PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Freshman forward William Yeates (Southampton, England/Thornden School) assisted on two goals to lead the Caldwell College men's soccer team to a 3-0 victory over Chestnut Hill College in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game Saturday afternoon at the Chestnut Hill Soccer Field. The win is the first of the season for the Cougars (1-3), who also opened conference play with today's match. The Griffins fall to 1-4-1 overall, 0-2-1 in the CACC with the loss.
Caldwell got on the scoreboard early, as freshman forward Facundo Zalazar (Buenos Aires City, Argentina/San Agustin) scored his first goal as a Cougar in the sixth minute off an assist from junior forward Rob Arena (Sparta, NJ/Sparta). In the 34th minute, Yeates set up a goal by freshman midfielder Chris Skarbelis (North Andover, MA/Leonardtown) for a 2-0 lead. Then in the 79th minute, senior midfielder Justin Miller (Monroe, NJ/Monroe), pictured, knocked home a rebound off Yeates' shot to notch his first goal of the season.
Sophomore goalkeeper John Londono (West New York, NJ/Memorial) earned his first career shutout with five saves in goal for Caldwell. Mike Goldstein played the first half for Chestnut Hill and made four saves, while P.J. Tucker was not credited with a save in the second half.
Caldwell plays CACC newcomer Concordia College on Tuesday, Sept. 22. The game starts at 3:00 p.m. in Bronxville, N.Y.
