NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Caldwell College women's soccer team lost to the host Owls, 4-0 at the Southern Connecticut State Tournament Saturday night at Jess Dow Field. The result drops the Cougars to 0-2 on the season, while the Owls improve to 2-0.
SCSU wasted little time getting on the scoreboard, as Danielle MacMurray scored just 33 seconds into the match. MacMurray found the net a second time in the 16th minute for a 2-0 lead, then Ashley Knight scored three minutes later to put the Owls on top 3-0. MacMurray completed the hat trick with a goal in the 69th minute.
Junior goalkeeper Lauren Hoenig (Howell, NJ/Howell) recorded five saves in goal for the Cougars, while Katie DiDio recorded one save in 74 minutes. Caldwell placed two players on the All-Tournament Team: senior midfielder Brianna Diaz (Chili, NY/Churchville-Chili) and junior midfielder Morgan Frankenfield (Coplay, PA/Whitehall Coplay).
Caldwell plays its first home game of the season on Thursday, Sept. 10, when the Cougars host Molloy College in a non-conference match. Game time is set for 4:00 p.m. at Caldwell Field.
