CHARGERS WIN THIRD GAME WITH CALDWELL IN BASEBALL


PARSIPPANY, N.J. - The Caldwell College baseball team fell to Dominican College, 9-1 in the third game of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference series with the Chargers Tuesday afternoon at Smith Field. The loss gives the Cougars a record of 16-21 overall, including a 10-14 mark in league play. Dominican, which won all three meetings with Caldwell, is now 31-9, 19-5 CACC.

The Chargers scored an unearned run in the top of the first, then put four runs on the scoreboard in the second inning for a 5-0 lead. Mario Lopez had a two-run single, while Alexi Colon hit a two-run home run to left field. Dominican scored four more runs in the top of the seventh to lead 9-0. Caldwell scored its only run of the game in the bottom of the ninth. Junior Jon Irwin (Mahopac, NY/Mahopac) hit a two-out single, then came home on a double by junior Josh Stedham (N. Palm Beach, FL/Jensen Beach), pictured.

Lopez finished the day with three doubles, a homer, three runs and two RBI for Dominican. Senior Jorge Torres (Coral Springs, FL/Taravella) went 3-for-4 with a double to lead the Cougar bats. Tom Kahl pitched a strong game, holding Caldwell to five hits and no runs while fanning nine in seven innings of work to improve to 6-0. Junior lefty Ray Keelan (Barnegat, NJ/Southern Regional) took the loss for the Cougars.

Caldwell plays at Pace University on Wednesday, Apr. 29, beginning at 3:30 p.m. in Pleasantville, N.Y.
