PARSIPPANY, N.J. - Junior Ray Keelan (Barnegat, NJ/Southern Regional) drove in four runs to lead the Caldwell College baseball team to a 12-9 victory over Nyack College in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game Friday afternoon at Smith Field. The win gives the Cougars an overall record of 10-15, including a conference mark of 4-8. Nyack falls to 11-10, 7-7 CACC.
After spotting the Warriors a 1-0 lead after one inning, Caldwell struck for four runs in the bottom of the second. Junior Miguel Perdomo (Teaneck, NJ/Bergen Catholic) singled home freshman Jorge Ynoa (Bayside, NY/Bayside), then later came home along with junior Juan Pinero (Bronx, NY/Columbus) on a double by junior Omar Velazquez (Astoria, NY/Long Island City). Senior Jorge Torres (Coral Springs, FL/Taravella) also had an RBI double in the inning.
But the lead wouldn't last long, as the Warriors scored four times in the top of the third to take a 5-4 lead. The Cougars answered in a big way in the bottom of the third, scoring six runs to go back on top, 10-5. Freshman Joe Doerrer (Middletown, NJ/Raritan) hit a two-run home run for his first career homer. Torres plated Perdomo with a grounder, then Keelan roped a three-run double with the bases loaded to put the Cougars ahead to stay. Keelan also had an RBI single and scored a run in the fifth as part of a 3-for-5 day at the plate.
Velazquez went 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI, while Ynoa, pictured, also had two hits and scored two runs. Freshman A.J. Boardman (Sunnyside, NY/St. Francis Prep) pitched 5 1/3 innings of relief, allowing three hits and four runs, one earned, to earn the victory.
